The Glen Arbor Mill project preserved a cherished piece of Glen Arbor’s heritage through the adaptive reuse of a historic mill nestled along the banks of the Crystal River near the shores of Lake Michigan. Using original materials dating back to the 1860s, the project carefully restored the structure while reimagining it as a modern coffee shop and bakery. The transformation saved the historic site from deterioration, created a new community gathering place, and reintroduced economic activity that supports the vitality of downtown Glen Arbor.
"I felt like we-the community- we can’t let this thing just fall over. We can’t let the roofs fall in. It’s too beautiful. There are too many cool things inside this building to be shared.”
